Job Description
The Office of Bar Counsel is seeking a Paralegal Investigator to conduct investigations from our Las Vegas office. This is a full time, non-exempt position.
The successful candidate will investigate grievances against attorneys received from clients, judges, the general public, and others. The work involves, among other things, investigative research, including obtaining statements from potential witnesses and the responding attorney through written questions or interviews; obtaining and organizing documentary evidence; extensive document review; managing case files; writing investigative reports; and professionally presenting the evidence in disciplinary hearings. Ideal candidates should possess the following:
· a demonstrated interest in law and attorney discipline.
· an understanding of, and willingness to learn about, basic concepts, terminology, principles, and procedures of lawyer discipline.
· excellent analytical skills, interpersonal skills, organizational skills, communication skills and writing ability.
· the ability to work independently and manage multiple investigations at the same time.
· the ability to obtain information and evidence through interviews, subpoenas, and other investigative techniques.
· an ability to write clear, succinct, and informative investigative reports for the prosecuting attorneys, identifying the ethical issues and evidence in a case.
· an ability to think critically and employ problem-solving skills to narrow issues and determine facts in a case.
· proficiency with Microsoft applications, such as Outlook, Word, and Excel.
· five (5) years of experience in the legal, investigative, or similar field.
· a familiarity with client trust accounts, forensic auditing, and/or accounting background is a plus.
