Position Summary:
The Barback at KATA plays a critical support role in ensuring the bar operates efficiently, remains fully stocked, and delivers a seamless guest experience. This position requires speed, organization, attention to detail, and a proactive mindset. By maintaining the bar’s readiness and assisting bartenders throughout service, the Barback helps uphold KATA’s high standards of hospitality, cleanliness, and operational excellence.
As a key member of the beverage team, the Barback works closely with bartenders, servers, and management to anticipate needs, restock supplies, maintain cleanliness, and support the execution of KATA’s beverage program. This role is essential to ensuring smooth service flow and a polished, consistent guest experience.
Core Tasks and Responsibilities:
Support bartenders by maintaining a fully stocked and organized bar: Ensure all spirits, mixers, garnishes, glassware, ice, tools, and supplies are replenished throughout service to prevent delays and maintain operational efficiency.
Prepare and restock all bar ingredients and garnishes: Wash, cut, and organize garnishes; refill syrups, juices, and mixers; and ensure all prep items meet KATA’s quality and presentation standards.
Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of the bar area at all times: Clean surfaces, bar mats, tools, and equipment; remove trash; polish glassware; and uphold all health and safety guidelines to ensure a pristine and compliant environment.
Assist with bar setup and breakdown for each shift: Complete all opening and closing tasks, including stocking, cleaning, organizing tools, preparing ice, and ensuring the bar is fully ready for service.
Restock and rotate inventory to maintain freshness and accuracy: Monitor product levels, rotate stock according to FIFO standards, and communicate any shortages or supply needs to the Bar Lead and General Manager.
Support bartenders during high-volume service periods: Run drinks, clear glassware, retrieve supplies, and anticipate needs to help maintain speed, accuracy, and guest satisfaction.
Maintain organization of storage areas and walk-ins related to the bar: Ensure all bar-related items are stored neatly, labeled correctly, and easily accessible to support efficient service.
Assist with receiving and organizing deliveries: Help check in beverage and supply orders, verify quantities, and store items properly to maintain accurate inventory and prevent waste.
Communicate effectively with bartenders, servers, and management: Relay needs, updates, and issues promptly to support smooth service and maintain alignment across the FOH team.
Follow all safety, sanitation, and responsible service guidelines: Adhere to health codes, alcohol handling protocols, and internal safety standards to maintain a safe environment for guests and staff.
Participate in ongoing training and development sessions: Engage in service workshops, product education, and team meetings to stay aligned with evolving standards and expectations.
